SUMMARY
A private family in the Lac-Beauport area of Quebec is looking for an experienced, versatile and self-directed Houseman and Handyman to take care of general upkeep, routine repairs and the smooth running of their residence and its facilities.
The successful candidate will handle a range of indoor and outdoor maintenance work, preventive maintenance and minor repairs. They will also keep the property's equipment in working order, look after and manage the vehicles, ATVs and pool, coordinate outside suppliers and provide versatile support as the household requires.
The ideal candidate is resourceful, handy, organized and able to spot work that needs doing before being asked. They care about quality of work, safety and keeping the property impeccable.
This is a permanent full-time position and an excellent opportunity for a dependable person looking to build a long term future with a private family.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
General upkeep and repairs
- Carry out routine upkeep and maintenance of the residence.
- Handle a variety of minor indoor and outdoor repairs.
- Carry out minor carpentry, painting, plumbing and other manual work within the candidate's skills.
- Inspect the property regularly to identify repairs or work needed.
- Carry out preventive maintenance of the facilities and equipment.
- Make sure the various areas of the residence stay functional, safe and well maintained.
- Carry out assembly, installation and adjustment work.
Grounds and outdoor upkeep
- Help with the general upkeep of the outdoor areas and grounds.
- Keep the pool and its equipment running properly.
- Carry out seasonal work as needed.
- Keep terraces, driveways, storage areas and other outdoor facilities clean and functional.
- Carry out or supervise landscaping work.
- Help prepare the property for seasonal changes.
- Clear snow from certain areas as needed, or coordinate outside services when required.
Equipment and suppliers
- Monitor the proper operation of the property's equipment and systems.
- Carry out routine checks and report any issue promptly.
- Coordinate specialized suppliers and contractors when work goes beyond their own skills.
- Receive suppliers, give them access to the property and supervise the work when needed.
- Follow up on completed work and make sure it meets standards.
- Keep an adequate inventory of the tools, materials and supplies needed for upkeep.
Vehicles, ATVs, watercraft and equipment
- Keep the family's vehicles clean, in good condition and in working order.
- Track scheduled servicing, repairs, tyre changes and appointments with dealers or garages.
- Handle routine upkeep and follow-up for the ATVs, watercraft, snowmobiles and other motorized equipment on the property.
- Coordinate specialized repairs and servicing with the appropriate suppliers.
- Make sure vehicles, ATVs, watercraft, snowmobiles, tools and equipment are stored properly and safely.
Versatile household support
- Respond to the practical needs of the residence and the family.
- Help move, install or store furniture and equipment.
- Receive and put away deliveries.
- Prepare outdoor areas and facilities according to the family's needs.
- Run errands connected to the running of the property.
- Work with the other household staff and outside suppliers.
- Carry out any other related task that keeps the residence running and well maintained.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
- Several years of experience in a similar role in property upkeep, residential maintenance, construction, renovation or a related field.
- Excellent practical skills and the ability to carry out various types of maintenance and repair work.
- Good general knowledge of the upkeep of a residence and its equipment.
- Able to recognize work that requires a specialized professional.
- Sense of organization and ability to manage several priorities.
- Able to work independently and proactively.
- Good physical condition and able to carry out manual work indoors and outdoors.
- Valid driver's licence.
- Discretion, reliability, honesty and professionalism.
- Attention to detail and to work well done.
- Available and flexible for the occasional needs of the residence.
- Experience in a private residence is considered an asset.
