Questions, answered
Everything you need to know about hiring and finding work in Canadian private households. If your question is not here, write to us and we will answer it.
Private Household Jobs is a Canadian job board dedicated to private service professionals: estate managers, house managers, housekeepers, private chefs, chauffeurs, nannies, personal assistants and caregivers. Employers post their openings directly, with no agency commission.
Two audiences. Households and family offices looking to hire staff, and experienced private service professionals looking for their next position.
All of Canada. Most current openings are in Quebec, Ontario and British Columbia, and the board is open to every province.
Yes. Use the language selector to switch between English and French. Job postings appear in the language the employer wrote them in.
Eight categories: Household Management, Private Chefs and Culinary, Childcare and Education, Housekeeping, Drivers and Security, Personal and Administrative Support, Property and Grounds, Caregiving and Companionship.
Live-in means accommodation is provided at the residence. Live-out means you work at the residence and return to your own home. Each posting carries the tag that applies, and you can filter by either.
Through the contact form. We answer during business hours, Eastern time.
For job seekers
Browsing and applying are free. Here is how it works.
You can browse every posting freely. Whether an account is needed to apply depends on the posting: some send you to the employer's own application page, others use the form on the site. An account lets you save your details and set up job alerts.
Yes. Browsing and applying are free, always.
Open the posting and use the Apply button. Depending on the employer, you will either fill in the form on the site or be taken to the employer's own application page. Both routes reach the same recruiter.
Set up a job alert. Choose the categories and locations that interest you and new matching postings are emailed to you.
Yes. Use the minimum salary filter in the search panel. Amounts are shown in Canadian dollars. Not every employer publishes a range, so you can also choose to include postings without a stated salary.
Your application goes straight to the employer or their recruiter. They contact the candidates they wish to meet. Response times vary by household, and not every application receives a reply.
No. We are a job board, not a placement agency. We publish openings and connect you with the employer directly.
Thirty days, unless the employer closes the position sooner.
Postings are open to anyone legally entitled to work in Canada. Most employers require that status at the time of hiring. Check the requirements listed in each posting.
For employers
Post a private service role directly, with no agency commission.
Create an employer account, then use Post a Job. You fill in the role, location, schedule, requirements and how you would like to receive applications. Your first posting is reviewed by us before it goes live; after that, your postings publish directly.
A single posting is C$279, billed once. A pack of five postings is C$1,195, which works out to C$239 each, and the credits stay valid for twelve months. Unlimited postings are C$899 per month for as long as your plan is active. Prices are in Canadian dollars and sales taxes are added at checkout.
Thirty days. With the monthly plan, listings renew automatically every thirty days until you close them or cancel your plan.
By email, and in your employer dashboard. You can also direct candidates to your own application page instead.
Yes. You can keep the household name out of the posting and describe the position without identifying details. Candidates apply to you, not to a named family.
No. We publish your opening and send you what comes in. Screening, interviews and references stay with you.
Yes, from your dashboard, at any time.
Close the posting from your dashboard. The fee for the remaining days is not refunded.
Before a posting goes live, yes, in full, if you ask within forty-eight hours of purchase. Once it is published the service is delivered and it is not refundable. Full terms are in the refund policy.
Never. You pay for the posting and nothing else, whatever the salary you agree with the person you hire.
We review the first posting of every new employer before it goes live. After that, postings publish directly and we monitor them, removing any listing that is not a genuine private household position or that breaches our terms of sale.
