SUMMARY
A couple living in Westmount is looking for an experienced, organized Private Chef with a keen eye for quality produce, to prepare healthy, balanced and varied meals three to four evenings a week.
The Chef will be responsible for the whole culinary process, from menu planning and sourcing through to preparation, plating and table service. Dinners, prepared for two, will generally include two courses: a starter and a main.
One particular aspect of the role is travelling periodically to the principals' farm in the Eastern Townships to collect fresh, seasonal produce that can be worked into the menus.
The person we are looking for has an excellent grasp of healthy, nutritious cooking, knows how to showcase high quality ingredients and can adapt their creations to the principals' tastes and preferences.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Menu planning and meal preparation
- Develop varied, balanced menus suited to the principals' tastes, dietary preferences and nutritional needs.
- Prepare dinners for two, generally including a starter and a main course.
- Handle all cooking, preparation and plating.
- Serve meals at the table with professionalism and discretion.
- Adapt menus to preferences, seasons and available produce.
- Suggest new dishes while respecting the principals' eating habits.
Sourcing and produce management
- Buy what is needed for meal preparation, favouring fresh, high quality ingredients.
- Travel periodically to the principals' farm in the Eastern Townships to collect fresh, seasonal produce.
- Work farm produce into the menus and show it to best advantage.
- Manage food rotation and storage properly.
- Keep an adequate inventory of the products and ingredients needed.
Kitchen upkeep and organization
- Keep the kitchen, equipment and work areas clean, tidy and functional.
- Follow strict food hygiene and safety standards.
- Clean and tidy the areas used after each service.
- Keep kitchen tools and equipment properly maintained.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
- Proven professional experience as a Private Chef in a private residence.
- Recognized culinary training or equivalent professional experience.
- Excellent understanding of nutrition and the ability to create healthy, balanced and flavourful meals.
- Good knowledge of fresh, seasonal and high quality produce.
- Able to adapt the cooking to the principals' evolving tastes and preferences.
- Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail.
- Able to work independently and efficiently with minimal supervision.
- Initiative, flexibility and adaptability.
- Excellent communication and time management skills.
- Discretion, reliability and professionalism.
- Valid driver's licence and access to a vehicle required.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
- Location: Westmount, Quebec.
- Type of position: long term, with the possibility of employee or self-employed status.
- Schedule: 3 to 4 days per week, Monday to Thursday, to be determined.
- Working hours: approximately 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., to be adjusted as needed.
- Travel: periodic trips to the principals' farm in the Eastern Townships to collect fresh produce.
